I suppose you could say I am thankful for the courage of a small few that decided to leave all life that they ever knew.... hopped on a small wooden ship and headed west. I mean come on... that takes balls!
I suppose I could show even more respect for the Paleo-Indians who came here over 12,000 years ago.... showing even greater courage as they migrated over the land bridge from Eurasia and spread out all over North, Central and South America.
I suppose we should all give thanks that the latter group decided to help out the former group when they were on the cusp of extinction. We should also realize that "but for" that union we would not all now be living and "flowering in this generation... triumphantly." O.K. the last few words were actually Bob Marley.
Always give credit where credit is due!
Yes... our Native American brethren shared their food with us during that cold, severe winter. They harbored us. They embraced us. They allowed us to live in their world.
When our politicians espouse their philosophies on immigration.... Let's at least try to keep the true historical record in perspective.
Above all else, there are no borders in humanity... there are only families helping other families and protecting them in their time of need. There are only individuals protecting and giving sustenance and warmth to courageous strangers that have arrived on wooden ships.... on the shores of hope.
